Ritu Sandhi an Autumn Closing Ritual

  • State of Zen 227 Bagot Road Subiaco Australia (map)

Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old Indian healing tradition that understands the human body as part of nature, governed by the same rhythms, cycles and seasons.
In Ayurveda, the transition between seasons is called Ritu Sandhi. It is considered one of the most potent days of the year to rest, reset and consciously cross the threshold into what is coming next. This is an invitation to do exactly that. We begin with Abhyanga, the Ayurvedic ritual of warm sesame oil applied to the skin.
More than massage, this practice is understood in Ayurveda as one of the most direct ways to nourish the nervous system and protect the skin as the air turns cooler and drier.
We then move through a slow, grounding Tantric Hatha practice held together by mantra, breath and deep internal awareness, before descending into a Yoga Nidra written for this threshold.
You leave with a small bottle of oil to continue this nourishing ritual at home and a guide for aligning with the season ahead.
