Where does the inspiration for The Green Witch products come from? . . .

The Green Witch was born at a time of great transition for me. Created through a combination of my desire for a vessel of creativity, my love of herbs and a lifelong curiosity with health and wellness. I like to think of The Green Witch products as my magic and the process of the creations, is the casting of a spell. Inspiration comes from my surroundings and my life, with a focus on yoga, meditation and the encouragement towards a state of zen. I create what I love and what I think, and hope will be helpful. I also enjoy the challenge of creating a herbal based alternative to over the counter products.

Where are The Green Witch ingredients sourced? . . .

The Green Witch sources all ingredients and packaging from sustainable, ethical and, where possible, local based companies. For some of the more rare and unusual ingredients, these sometimes have to be sourced overseas. The Green Witch encourages you to hold onto your used bottles, return to me for discounted refills.

Why do some of your labels have Burn the Witch on them? . . .

When The Green Witch Apothecary first started out, it was called Burn the Witch. I found alot of people were confused or upset by my name, it didn't really connect with many people. I'll explain here my thought process behind the original name. Why the grim name? Well, as William Faulkner once said "the past is never dead, it's not even past". The classic image of the witch has evolved from an evil, black clothed, wart-nosed women stirring a cauldron to cackling beings riding through the sky on brooms wearing pointy hats and spoiling the Smurfs fun. In pop culture, witches have been a nose-twitching, sixties suburban housewife, a teenager learning to control her powers and a trio of charmed sisters battling the forces of evil. The real history of witches, however, is very dark and tragic.Early witches were people who practised witchcraft—they used magic spells and called upon spirits for help or to bring about change. Most witches were thought to be pagans doing the "Devil’s work". Many, however, were simply natural healers or so-called “wise women” whose choice of profession was misunderstood. It’s unclear exactly when witches came on the scene, but one of the earliest records of a witch is in the Bible in the book of 1 Samuel, thought be written between 931 B.C. and 721 B.C. It tells the story of when King Saul sought the Witch of Endor to summon the dead prophet Samuel’s spirit to help him defeat the Philistine army. The witch roused Samuel, who then prophesied the death of Saul and his sons. The next day, according to the Bible, Saul’s sons died in battle, and Saul committed suicide. While the use of herbs and witchcraft is for the most part no longer trialled within this 'modern' world, it's still important to remember history and recognise that throughout history and to the present day, people have been and are still persecuted for what those in higher powers don't understand, or are somehow threatened by.
